Donkey Training & Trimming Services

We offer a range of services tailored to the needs of both donkeys and their owners, all rooted in 100% gentle, trust-based training methods!

We are happy to work with both individual owners, as well as rescues, sanctuaries, and other organizations to provide much needed training that enables donkeys to be safely handled and prepared for adoptive homes.

Donkey Board & Train

Board & Train is an excellent option for donkeys that require intensive daily training and trust-building, including unhandled wild burros straight from holding facilities, domesticated donkeys that cannot be safely handled or caught, and cases of severe past trauma to overcome.

We offer board & train services on site at our facility in Littlefield, AZ, where we work with your donkey on a daily basis to understand their needs, restore trust, and train essential skills.

Board & Train service includes:

  • Feed

  • Daily interaction

  • Skill training, including haltering, lifting feet, walking on lead, and loading in a trailer

  • Farrier trimming as needed

Cost:

  • $1200 per donkey for the first month

  • $600 per donkey per additional month

We require a minimum of one month, after which we can discuss whether additional time is needed. Every donkey is unique, and there’s no knowing going into it how they’re going to progress or what exactly they’ll need.

Transport to and from our facility can also be provided at a cost of $1 per mile from Littlefield, AZ.

Note: We welcome wild burros, and are happy to help you choose your burros at a nearby holding facility and transport them to our location for training before they go home with you. While a significant upfront cost, board & train sets your burros up for success for life!

Mobile Training & Trimming

We’re proud to offer one of the only mobile donkey training & trimming services available in the Southwest!

Our service zone currently consists of southern California, northern Arizona, and parts of southern Nevada & Utah. However, we may be able to travel outside of this zone if sufficient clients are lined up to allow for it!

All mobile training & trimming begins with a meet & greet during which we can assess your donkey’s needs and discuss a game plan.

Training can encompass a wide range of goals, from being easily caught and haltered, overcoming past traumas, standing for a farrier to be trimmed at liberty, walking on lead, and any other desired skills. We typically build trimming into our training routine as it’s an excellent way to build trust and critical to a donkey’s health and well-being.

Following the meet & greet, we require a commitment of 10 sessions for new clients to establish trust and make significant progress with your donkey. Typically, several of these sessions can be completed during each of our trips to your area, making the total training period 6-10 weeks.

Cost:

  • Training: $100 per hour for each donkey (includes a trim if needed)

  • Trimming only: $65 per trim

Virtual Consulting

Need help with your donkey but not sure where to start? Our virtual consulting sessions offer personalized guidance wherever you are in the world, helping you better understand your donkey and determine the best next steps.

By hearing your donkey’s story and watching them interact with you, we can provide useful advice on how to make improvements and gain their trust.

Cost: $100 for a 1 hour Zoom call
